Melissa Birch

Melissa Birch is a lino print artist who lives in the South Downs and is inspired by the local flora, birds and wildlife. Subject matter such as the striking silhouette of a seed head against an autumn sky, or the burst of colour coming from berries in winter are sketched hastily and then transformed into elegant line, shape or blocks of colour. All of the works are original prints and are produced by hand, in small editions from her home studio, using professional inks and Japanese papers.

Having trained as a Fine Artist during the 1990s at the Ruskin School, Oxford and Chelsea College of Art in London, Melissa decided to specialise in lino printing after falling in love with the process of printing with a baren. She has previously sold artworks through well-known companies such as the Art Group and Habitat.

More recently she has been exhibiting at Chalk Gallery in Lewes, The Green Tree Gallery at Haywards Heath, Gallery BN5 of Henfield, and is an active member and Co-Chair of Steyning Arts.
