Beach Pottery is a home studio located on beautiful Shoreham Beach, on the south coast.
It is just a stones throw away from the shoreline and this is where Sharon draws most of her inspiration. From her daily walks along the beach she will admire the shape or colour of various detritus, shells, seaweed, stones etc. and aim to incorporate the ideas into her work.
All of her ceramic pieces are utilitarian and have a place in our daily lives, whether it’s used in the kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom or bedroom.
Sharon uses a myriad of processes but she most favours throwing on an electric wheel. She uses earthenware, stoneware and paper porcelain clays and every piece is kiln fired at least twice, sometimes three times up to over 1200 degrees.
Pottery started as a part time hobby for Sharon, something to relieve the stress of running her own business, but soon she was hooked and is now making pottery full time. ‘The process of manipulating an organic material to produce something beautiful and useful is just magical.’
