Micheal Harris

Michael Steven Harris is a self-taught, Brighton based photographer specialising in landscape photography, in particular astrophotography. Using long exposures he uncovers the hidden objects and beauty of the night sky above Sussex’s famous landmarks and the rolling hills of the South Downs – depicted in such works as the ‘Milky Way Core over the Palace Pier’, the ‘Milky Way at Devil’s Dyke’ and photos of the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) from both Brighton and Worthing. Michael is also a big fan of capturing landscapes with seemingly huge Moons in them, which you may notice from some of his photos!

Michael has had a keen interest in astronomy since childhood, which he has turned into a fascination with creating otherworldly images that he hopes inspires others to seek out dark skies.

In 2023 he won the Artists Open Houses Photographer of the Year award. In the same year he was also shortlisted in the Street Photography category for the prestigious British Photography Awards, highly-commended in the South Downs National Park photography competition and also shortlisted for multiple images in History Hit’s ‘Historic Photographer of the Year’ award and Amateur Photographer Magazine’s 2023 awards.
