Steve Mason

"Art is not just about the final piece but the journey and the myriad experiences that shape it"

About

Born in 1951, Steve’s journey into the art world is a testament to his passion and dedication to his craft. His career trajectory is as colorful and varied as his paintings, having worked in various industries before retiring in 2016. However, it is his lifelong devotion to creating artworks that has defined his true calling.

Education has also played a significant role in Steve Mason’s artistic evolution. Completing a BA Fine Art degree course in 2021 just before his 70th birthday, opened his eyes to new possibilities and challenges.

Medium and technique

Steve has only recently discovered watercolours and has devoloped a passion for this medium. His paintings have always been defined by his use of bright colours and  was not something he thought he could achive through the use of watercolours. Having found that the building up of layers achieved the results he wanted, watercolours have become the medium of choice.

His subject matter has also become a new challenge. Faces and figures have never featured in his previous works and the creation of his first semi abstact, or contemporay art nouveau portrait has led to a series of works that he has lovingly created.

What to expect

For the Art Above Exhibition Steve will be exhibiting a range of limited edition prints that will be exclusive to Montague Gallery.
