Discover the wonderful world of watercolour painting and learn to love your mistakes!
This comprehensive morning workshop is the perfect way for beginners and more experienced artists to learn some watercolour techniques to paint a puffin and beach pebbles.
We’ll start the morning painting beach pebbles which are a wonderful way to ease into watercolour painting and to practice wet on wet technique.
During the morning we’ll look at different techniques to paint feathers, beaks and eyes. After mastering these we’ll move onto creating the puffin and pebbles painting!
We’ll work from photos of puffins and pebbles from the beach. Our sketches will be transferred via the tracing method to watercolour paper so no drawing skills are required!
By the end of the workshop you’ll have practiced lots of techniques used to paint Puffins and Pebbles and go home with the step by step notes from the workshop together with your lovely painting.
All materials are provided but please feel free to bring a favourite paint brush if you have one!

How many people are in each workshop?
There is a maximum of 10 people per course.
The workshop I am interested in is sold out; do you have a waiting list?
You can be added to the waiting list if you cannot attend, or the course is sold out.
I have paid for a place in a workshop but am now unable to come. Is it possible to have a refund or a transfer?
If you are unable to attend a booked course you may be able to transfer to a new date if at least 14 days notice is given in writing by email to workshop@montaguegallery.co.uk However any cancellation with less than 48 hours notice is non-refundable and non transferrable.
Are refreshments provided?
We will take a short break for tea and biscuits for refreshments.
I'm left-handed, can I still join in?
Yes, that will not cause any problems.
Do I need to bring anything?
No, all materials and tools are provided.
I'm not artistic can I still join?
Yes, absolutely everyone is welcome!
Is this course suitable for children?
Age suitability – Adults 18+ (16/17 only if accompanied by a responsible “paying” adult). Regrettably, as the teaching space, within the upstairs gallery, is limited, no accompanying children are permissible within the class.
