Coastline Ceramics

I have recently become a ceramic artist, although I have always wanted to be one. I have collected ceramic art for many years and I decided that it was time I started developing my own ceramic work and ideas. I mainly work with porcelain and I like to use underglazes to paint my work on a bright, joyful way. I live in Lancing and I am inspired by the coast and downs which are local to me. I love the colours of the sea and I like to use brush strokes, with a fan brush, to emphasise the movement of the crashing waves. My work has been experimental so far and I have been refining my ideas. I am always excited to learn more. With ceramics I don’t think I will ever stop learning.

I have lived in the Worthing/Lancing area for nearly 40 years and I was born in Sussex, so Sussex is in my blood. I love the colours and the light in this area and I have been painting local scenes for many years. I have a degree, from Bristol, in Graphic design and illustration. I started as a watercolour artist and developed by using acrylic and oils. I also paint and draw animals and portraits.
But, ever since I made a pot at school I have been obsessed with ceramics. I have recently made the step from collecting ceramics to making them myself. I have only been making my own work now for about a year and a half.
