Michelle Dawson

Michelle is an Artist and Educator based in Worthing.

Ever since moving to the area twenty years ago she has been inspired by the busy seaside scenes, especially when they include the beautiful Art deco pier which she has drawn many times!

She draws using Indian ink which she applies using a dip-pen, a stick or a brush. She scans these drawings into her computer and adds colour digitally before printing the image onto thick archival paper. Each illustration is sold as a limited edition of a hundred prints. The prints are light fast and each is hand signed, numbered and titled. The images are also available as greetings cards.

Michelle has recently been experimenting with ink further by incorporating it with other materials such as coloured pencils, ink pencils and acrylic paints. She loves the happy accidents when layering contrasting materials together and likes to place marks with different qualities next to each other. These mixed media paintings include;

‘Cissbury showers’ a painting on board
‘Cerulean sea’ also on board, which depicts Mousehole Harbour in Cornwall
‘Widewater clover’ a painting on paper which celebrates the wildflowers growing at Widewater Lagoon near Lancing.

Michelle studied a Graphic Design degree at Bath Spa University and specialised in illustration.
She went on to train to teach Art at the University of Brighton and worked as a secondary school Art Teacher part-time while continuing to make and exhibit her own paintings and prints.

She now regularly teaches drawing and painting classes at Montague Gallery and runs after school clubs for children at a local Infant school.
