Jill Leaney comes from a long line of jewellers: ‘JAGOS’, who were established in St. Albans up until the mid-1970s.
“Primarily a Painter in Fine Art, I began my journey into Silver Smithing and jewellery after inheriting a quantity of ‘Antique Silver Cutlery’ in the mid-nineties.
‘Great I thought, I can put these in a drawer and pass them on?’
This gave me the inspiration to metamorphose these beautiful but almost obsolete objects into something practical and modern. I love the fact that I can use this beautiful metal to create something unique, functional and original that people can wear today. Each jewellery piece has been handcrafted and set with stones such as emerald, garnet, citrine, topaz, peridot, jade, amethyst and more. Most pieces date from around late 1700 to early 1900.
For the last four years, I have been fortunate enough to hone my skills by crafting in a high street workshop at jewellers in Hove.
This has afforded me the opportunity to display and sell my jewellery in a commercial setting. My work can be found in areas such as Lewes Castle, Cooper’s jewellers, various Galleries and Open Houses throughout the region. I am now procuring customers from the U.S.A and Australia”.
