 Stewarding Duties

Each artist /member will be expected to fulfil some stewarding slots as part of their commitment when joining the gallery. This involves meeting and greeting customers, helping with enquiries, keeping a vigilant eye, removing and replacing sold work and assisting the desk staff with wrapping. You will not need to manage the sales desk as there will always be a member of staff in charge.

The number of stewarding slots varies according to the number of artist members exhibiting in any 8-week session but averagely it works out to 6 or 7 x 3 hour shifts am or pm. This may reduce as we add more exhibitors in our new larger venue. A live rota link is sent out before the start of each Session for you to pick the times that suit you best.

We are a friendly team and this is a good opportunity to meet and get to know other gallery artist members as well as the benefit to customers who really enjoy meeting and chatting to the artists in person. If you have limited availability, we advise that you pick your slots early. If you have to change a shift at any time during the Session please try to sort a replacement yourself. We have a Behind the Scenes at Montague Gallery Facebook page to help exhibiting artists swop shifts if necessary and share news.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your shift starts and never be late

Last minute cancellations due to emergency or illness on the morning of the same day may mean that we cannot open if we don’t have enough cover.
