I create handmade paper flowers using many different mediums of paper. I study each flower in great detail, initially they will start with a sketch moving on to making templates of its parts and then engineering how those parts come together petal by petal or leaf by leaf for the best effect and finish. My work is inspired by nature but not bound by it as there are endless possibilities to add your own creative touches in either size or colour.
I work with the environment in mind by sourcing acid free papers and using water based glues and paints in the majority of my work. I also avoid the use of plastics in my packaging which in most cases I also make myself.
My venture into creating with paper originally started on a dreary winters day sitting in a very large very boring staff canteen, looking around at uninspired faces. I decided that brightening up the surroundings may bring a little cheer and so the creating began. I made many themed and seasonal displays over the next few years to the appreciation of my work colleagues until, sadly, my job role was made redundant. I opted to take some time out for myself but didn’t want to do nothing. Over the last 3 or 4 years I have honed my skills with paper creating over 50 varieties of flowers, foliage and seeds. I mainly work to order so each design has my full attention and I work on new varieties between commissions.
