An introduction to Seaweed Pressing, with Seaweed & Sunshine x
Have you ever walked along the beach and looked at the seaweed around your feet? Try it next time your there, look closely, it’s very beautiful. That’s how I started collecting and pressing seaweed and then began turning it into art.
During this 2 hour workshop, I will show you the technique I use to press seaweed. But I can’t show you pressing without sharing with you some of the information and I have learned along the way too.
Each participant will receive a pressing kit, to use a the workshop and then keep. It contains a wooden press, 15 x 15cm, tools, gloves and sanitiser, information sheet and a how to booklet.
You will make 4 pressings to take away, from seaweed I will provide, or you are welcome to bring along some finds of your own. Please bear in mind that seaweed doesn’t appreciate being kept for too long once collected, so I would suggest maybe a quick trip to the beach before the workshop.
You will be able to check on and reveal your pressings at home and I will give you suggestions of how they can be displayed. I will have a small selection of extras, like frames and cards, for you to purchase if you wish or can suggest where they can be obtained.
I will provide everything else you need for you to get started, you just need to book and come along.
Tea and coffee will also be provided
