Layering Colour with Batik

A creative workshop suitable for beginners, those who attended the Introduction to batik workshop, or those with more experience. Explore ways to layer colour using batik wax resist and hand painted dyes to create successful designs
During the workshop you will:
– Experiment using molten wax from a heated pot and tools including tjantings and brushes.
– Receive guidance on creating a colour palette from your selected source image
– Learn how to abstract or a section of your image into simple shapes
– Sketch a design onto cotton fabric stretched onto a small frame
– Alternate hand painted dye and wax layers to build up a colourful and vibrant design
– Iron out the wax afterwards to reveal the finished design
Please bring an apron or old shirt and a pattern-based image that is not too detailed as a starting point.

You can be added to the waiting list if you cannot attend, or the course is sold out.
We can only give refunds in exceptional circumstances. We will however offer an alternative date or course.

Age suitability – Adults 18+ (16/17 only if accompanied by a responsible “paying” adult). Regrettably, as the teaching space, within the upstairs gallery, is limited, no accompanying children are permissible within the class.
