Join local printmaker Marta Jim on this easy and magical workshop brought by popular demand! This is an incredibly easy to grasp and accessible process.
Whether you’ve attended a previous sun prints workshop (on paper) or you’ve never heard of sun prints, this workshop is suitable for beginners and those wanting to re-visit the process. No previous skills needed.
In this workshop, you will learn about an alternative light-sensitive process called “cyanotype”. We will start by learning about the iron-based emulsion that we will apply to different types of fabric throughout the workshop. These salts produce the distinctive deep blue images or silhouettes, and you will have plenty of time to explore how to create these using organic objects such as pressed flowers, leaves, thread, etc.
As the iron salts react with UV light, we will be moving from indoors to outdoors throughout the session (please note that the workshop space is on the first floor).
As well as using different fabrics, you will get the chance to design your own tote bag.
You will be also encouraged to bring your favourite leaves and/or objects to create silhouettes with them, although that’s optional as all materials will be provided.
