My work is inspired by my love of nature, and I have a particular interest in painting beautiful birds, beetles and butterflies. I am drawn to the rich colours of my subject animals and insects, and paint them as if they are precious jewels hiding in the natural world. I enjoy using acrylic paints, as well as watercolours and have recently been experimenting with metallic watercolours. I also love to create mosaic pieces from my collection of buttons and beads of butterflies, or ‘button-flies’ as I like to call them. I find these projects very relaxing, like doing a jigsaw!
I have lived in Worthing for 10 years with my husband and 2 children and love what Worthing has to offer. I enjoy going for walks on the South Downs and along the seafront. I grew up in Morden, South London, and studied Theatre Design for Performance in Wimbledon School of Art. I dabbled in the world of theatre, doing set designs and prop making for some small theatre companies, as well as doing display work for Polka Theatre for children, where I worked throughout my university years Front of House.
Since moving down south I have worked as a Housing Officer, then as a Teaching Assistant in local primary schools. I have taken a step back from teaching support in order to fully focus on my artwork. I have exhibited in Worthing Museum and Art Gallery for Open 21. I am very excited about exhibiting my work in the Montague Gallery this summer.
