A creative workshop suitable for beginners, those who attended the Introduction to batik or layering colour batik workshops, or those with more experience. During a longer one day workshop create an individual hand painted cotton batik piece of artwork or a hand painted silk scarf.
During the workshop you will:
– Create test samples using molten wax from a heated pot and tools including tjantings and brushes.
– With guidance plan and sketch a design for a larger cotton or silk piece
– Alternate hand painted dyes and wax to build up your design in layers
– Iron out the wax afterwards to reveal the finished design
Please bring an apron or old shirt and ideas for a pattern-based image for inspiration. You will be contacted to confirm if you would like to work on a silk scarf blank or a cotton piece stretched on a frame. These and all materials will be provided.
