Learn techniques that nurture creativity and bring out your inner artist in an exciting, informal 5-week course of two and a half hour sessions in our light and airy upper gallery studio.

Marcus demonstrates many ways to interact with the paint surface creating interesting textures and effects to practice skills and then produce an A4 canvas panel each session.

This course is suitable for new and existing class members.

The exploration of core skills and techniques in using acrylics is an ongoing process relevant to beginner and intermediate. The landscape and seascape reference images provided to inspire us change weekly so there is always a new challenge

Event FAQs

How many people are in each workshop?

There will be a minimum of eight and a maximum of twelve people per course.  There will be a waiting list for future courses.

Can children attend your workshops?

Age suitability – Adults 18+ (16/17 only if accompanied by a responsible “paying” adult).  Regrettably, as the teaching space, within the upstairs gallery, is limited, no accompanying children are permissible within the class.

I am not artistic in the slightest, will I be any good?

This course is suitable for all levels, both to inspire those starting out, and to increase the skill level of the more experienced student.

I have paid for a place in a workshop but am now unable to come. Is it possible to have a refund?

The entire workshop fee is payable prior to commencement of the workshop, unfortunately refunds can only be given in exceptional circumstances (and no alternative dates can be offered) as minimum numbers of students must be maintained to make the workshop viable.

Do I need to bring anything?

Materials – An A4 canvas panel, practice paper, essential acrylic paints, brushes, and other equipment will be provided.

Reference Photos

Reference photos will be provided, as required.

Finished artwork

Students to bring a suitable box file to take work home (as it may still be wet at the end of the session) – a small number of plastic box files will be available to purchase at £3.00 each

Do I need to wear special clothing?

Please wear suitable clothing, as acrylic paint will only wash out whilst wet.

Are refreshments provided?

Tea or coffee, and a biscuit, is also included within the course fee at break time.  Please feel free to bring your own travel mug or cup (to save on washing-up) and any alternative (non-dairy) milk products required.

Personal responsibility during workshop

Students are responsible for safe keeping of their valuables and personal possessions within the space, and no liability can be taken for their damage or loss by the gallery or tutor.
